Totally Rad: Children's/Family Films

What ever happened to films based around kids and teenagers? Remember movies like The Goonies and The Mighty Ducks? What happened to films that revolved around a kid with a group of friends, facing kid problems and going through all sort of shenanigans? They don't make movies like these anymore. Movies that attracted younger audiences and I don't mean the animated ones. I checked, they're called "children's/family film".  Only on rare occasions would they make films like Hugo and Diary of A Wimpy Kid. I cherish these movies. You don't get to see movies like these every year, unlike in the 90s. The 90s was the golden era of children's film. Okay, I made that up. Big deal! My point is, every year in the 90's you would get movies like Home Alone or Jumanji coming out in the movies. Even though I wasn't entirely alive yet (being born in 1997), I've got evidence from my older sister and Wikipedia.

So, I grew up watching these films because I was fortunate to have parents who allowed my siblings and I to watch the TV all day because it kept us quiet and Disney offered us movies like Honey, I Shrunk The Kids and Hocus Pocus every evening. I don't know if it was like that in America but it was like that here in Asia. Now it just ain't the same.

Something I really like about these children's film, and I'm not gonna deny, are the young male actors that stars in them. You have no idea what they did to me growing up. Looking back, I noticed that I had a great taste in guys. Those cute actors completed the film. They made the film worth watching, even if it's about a guy breathing for 2 hours. Okay, maybe not. Oh, and I bet everyone had a crush on the human form Casper. I know I did, when I was 8! Good times, good times. He was my first celeb crush, if I might add. I have a long list of childhood celebrity crush, starting with Rocky from 3 Ninjas until what's his face from Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie. I used to get really mad when the guys end up kissing a girl. "That should be me!" a tiny voice screams in my head. Then I came to a point of realization 10 years later, that the guys I've been crushing on when I was a kid are like 20 years older than me.

Nick Carter's engaged! The youngest member of the Backstreet Boys proposed to his longtime girlfriend Lauren Kitt on the 20th of February 2013 according to Wikipedia. I always thought I was going to be his bride. This is a story of how I became a Backstreet Boys fan or Backstreet girl; what do the fans call themselves!?

It was June of the year 2011. I was looking up Backstreet Boys on YouTube because I was going through this phase where I wanted to relive my childhood. The Backstreet Boys were a minor part of my childhood actually. I knew who they were but I kind of didn't remember what they looked like. I'm sorry, but the Spice Girls and Britney Spears basically took over my life when I was 3 years old. So the first video I clicked on was Everybody (Backstreet's Back) because this one time, in my old school, when I was 10 or 11, it was Art class and the teacher would usually switch on the radio and this song came on. So, when it got to that verse where they sang "Am I sexual?", everyone in class started giggling like it was the funniest thing ever. I admit, I laughed as well. The word sexual being said really got to us kids back then. Watching the video that day, I felt like I've watched it before. Nostalgia overload. I thought Howie D was beautiful in the video. He looked almost like Willy Wonka with the hat and the stick. But when it got to the part where Nick Carter sang "So everybody, everywhere. Don't be afraid, don't have no fear." I instantly fell in love with Nick. I mean actually FALL. His blonde middle parting hair (curtain hair) falling just above his blue eyes, made my knobby knees weak. So that's basically how I fell head over heels for Nick Carter.
